Anyone who has attended a fair in Wisconsin has likely experienced the traffic headaches that are associated with them. Often, the heavier, slow-moving traffic that often accompanies such events can make it possible for people to be involved in a traffic accident. Unfortunately, one man is now charged with drunk driving after a recent accident.
The incident reportedly happened after the man left the Wisconsin State Fair. Police say they were called to the scene of a hit-and-run crash. Reports indicate that when police arrived at the scene, they came into contact with a 30-year-old man whose vehicle had reportedly sustained significant damage to its front. The man’s 7-year-old daughter reported that she was experiencing chest pain. The man claims that a driver cut him off, and he avoided a collision with that vehicle by changing lanes; unfortunately, he reportedly rear-ended a vehicle in the new lane while doing so.
Police say that the man admitted to consuming alcohol at the fair. The driver of the vehicle that was reportedly struck in the rear claims that he had begun to accelerate after slowing for traffic. That driver claims that the driver of the vehicle that rear-ended them had been driving aggressively prior to the accident, including speeding and swerving in and out of traffic. The driver with the young girl in his vehicle has since been charged with operating while intoxicated causing injury and hit and run.
Though accusations of drunk driving are easy to make, there must be sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt for there to be a conviction. Often, it is difficult for prosecutors to meet the high burden of proof required by the criminal justice system.
