Many trucking accidents that occur in Wisconsin involve a large truck hitting a passenger vehicle. However, sometimes these accidents involve multiple large trucks, which seem to have been the case in a multi-vehicle accident that occurred in Washington County recently.
According to the reports, the series of collisions occurred on Interstate 41 near a construction area. It appears that the incident began as a semi-truck and a box truck slowed down as the vehicles approached the construction area.
Then, the reports indicate that the driver of the box truck saw another semi-truck approaching behind him that was apparently not slowing down enough. The driver of the box truck reportedly attempted to get out of the way of the oncoming semi-truck, but the driver was not able to get his box truck completely out of the way in time. As a result, the oncoming semi-truck struck the rear of the box truck, flipping the box truck onto its side.
From there, the bulldozing semi-truck then hit the other semi-truck that was in the area right in front of the box truck. In the aftermath of the collision, the driver of the semi-truck that appears to have negligently failed to stop was injured and stuck in the cab of his vehicle. He had to be extracted by emergency personnel who reported to the scene. The drivers of the box truck and the other semi-truck were injured in the collision as well. Fortunately, the reports indicate that none of the injuries were life-threatening.
Trucking accidents in Wisconsin have the potential to cause tremendous damage and result in severe injuries. This recent incident shut down Interstate 41 for three hours as law enforcement officials investigated the scene and the accident was cleaned up. Wisconsin residents who are injured in trucking accidents may have the right to pursue financial compensation in a personal injury lawsuit. A civil action could be used to hold a negligent driver accountable for harms suffered while also helping with the recovering of compensation for these losses.
