What Are the Three Standard Field Sobriety Tests?

When it comes to establishing probable cause for an arrest during a traffic stop, police often use field sobriety tests. The three standard field sobriety tests are the horizontal gaze nystagmus, the one-leg stand and the walk-and-turn tests. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) however, these tests do not prove one hundred percent accurate. This remains true even when the tests are administered perfectly according to guidelines.

Challenging the results of field sobriety tests with the help of an experienced attorney is paramount. There is no room to take a chance with inexperienced defense when so much is on the line.
