Most people understand that with the number of people traveling on Wisconsin roadways, an accident may occur. Because of this potential, all drivers are expected to remain vigilant at all times. Additionally, drivers are expected to remain at the scene if they are involved in a car accident. Unfortunately, a woman is now accused of fleeing the scene that left a pedestrian suffering from serious injuries.
The accident is said to have occurred around noon on a day in late July. According to reports, a car driven by a 27-year-old woman struck a 22-year-old woman who was out for a run. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries in the accident, including “significant bleeding” on her brain. Medical professionals induced a coma, and the woman required emergency surgery.
Reports indicate that the driver of the motor vehicle left the scene of the accident. However, footage from dash and body cameras appear to show her standing near the intersection with other bystanders while the victim was being loaded into an ambulance. She has since been charged with hit and run causing great bodily injury. Police believe that the driver became distracted while texting her boyfriend.
The victim’s mother, who has been named her guardian due to the severity of the injuries suffered, has recently filed a personal injury lawsuit as a result of the Wisconsin car accident. Unfortunately, the victim is unable to talk and walk and likely faces a lengthy rehabilitation period. If the lawsuit is successfully presented, the court could award her financial damages that will take care of her medical costs — among other financial damages related to the accident.
